~ in no particular order ~
1. Before you bring anything into the house, stop and think if you need it and if you have the space to put it somewhere - remember, everything has a home!
2. Start with 5-10 minutes - focus on one drawer or shelf or cabinet.
3. Clear a surface – so there is enough space for you to eat, work etc.
4. Designate a spot for incoming papers – if it doesn’t go into recycling or shredding, it goes into your inbox for further filing (for ways how to create a simple filing system check this out: http://www.themogulmom.com/2010/03/7-paper-decluttering-tips-for-mom-entrepreneurs/ - or ask me for more ideas... )
5. Designate a spot for things that go to a thrift store and another one for gift swaps, friends, funk trunks etc. And keep these items circulating regularly.
6. When you buy 1 article of clothing, dispose of 2. Same for jewelery, shoes or anything you have excess of.
7. Make it beautiful – make your home reflect your personal style!
8. Make it fun – put on some music, open the windows and bring in some fresh air!
9. Ask for help – a friend to sit with you when you clear out emotionally charged stuff like an old lover’s things, or get a house cleaner if it helps you stay on top of your chores.
10. Be kind and gentle to yourself AND make an effort to do your best – find the balance!
